ROLE SUMMARY
- You will take overall leadership of the merchandising and sourcing function in the Vietnam office, driving product line growth, vendor strategy, cost competitiveness, and on-time delivery for global customers.
- You will oversee daily merchandising and sourcing activities, manage key OEM/vendor relationships, ensure commercial and compliance standards are met, and foster strong collaboration between Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, and global teams.
- This high-impact role requires solid toys/consumer products merchandising experience, strong sourcing and negotiation skills, and proven capability in leading cross-functional teams to deliver profitable, high-quality and compliant product programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Merchandising & Product Management
- Lead the Vietnam merchandising team to manage product portfolios for key customers, from concept, costing and sampling through to mass production and shipment.
- Work closely with customers, sales and global merchandising teams to understand product requirements, price points, timelines and margin targets.
- Coordinate the development, quotation and follow-up of new items (both soft and hard toys), ensuring competitive pricing, feasible designs and realistic delivery schedules.
- Monitor market trends, competitor offerings and cost movements to provide recommendations on assortment, pricing and sourcing strategies.
- Sourcing & Vendor Management
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies for toys and related products in Vietnam and the region, aligning supplier base, capacity and capabilities with business needs.
- Identify, evaluate and onboard new OEM factories and vendors; lead commercial negotiations on price, payment terms, and other key conditions.
- Manage ongoing vendor performance in terms of cost, quality, delivery, compliance and responsiveness, driving continuous improvement and supplier development.
- Partner with quality, compliance and engineering teams to ensure vendors meet international toy safety, social compliance and technical requirements.
- Office Operations & Team Leadership
- Oversee day-to-day activities of the merchandising and sourcing teams in the Vietnam office, ensuring smooth coordination with quality, engineering, logistics and finance.
- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team, setting clear goals, KPIs and development plans to build a strong merchandising and sourcing organization.
- Establish and refine processes, tools and reporting to support transparent, efficient and well-controlled merchandising and sourcing operations.
- Conduct regular business reviews, risk assessments and pipeline reviews to identify issues in advance and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with supply chain, logistics and production planning teams to secure capacity, manage lead times and support on-time shipment.
- Provide merchandising and sourcing insights during customer meetings, budgeting, line reviews and strategic planning discussions.
- Represent the Vietnam office in regional and global meetings, presenting updates on product pipelines, cost trends, vendor performance and sourcing initiatives.
- Act as a key liaison between Vietnam, Hong Kong, China and other regional offices, ensuring alignment, timely information flow and quick issue resolution.
IDEAL CANDIDATES
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Merchandising, Marketing, Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years’ experience in toys or consumer products merchandising and sourcing, with solid exposure in sourcing/buying office or OEM/ODM environments.
- At least 5 years in a managerial or senior leadership role, leading merchandising and/or sourcing teams and managing major customer and vendor accounts.
- Strong track record in product line management, costing, vendor negotiation and delivering margin and cost-saving targets.
- Good understanding of manufacturing and sourcing frameworks, including quality systems (e.g. ISO 9001), production lead times, and social compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills, able to work effectively with senior management, international customers, factory partners and internal teams.
- Good command of written and spoken English; Vietnamese speaking is a strong advantage. Cantonese and/or Mandarin will be a plus.
- Vietnam working experience or substantial exposure to the Vietnam manufacturing and vendor landscape is highly advantageous.
- Willingness to travel frequently within Vietnam to visit vendors and factories, and occasionally to Hong Kong and China for meetings and regional coordination.
