Role Summary
The Product Director leads the product management team and is responsible for identifying product opportunities, defining product requirements, and developing a clear product roadmap aligned with customer needs, company strategy, and commercial objectives.
Reporting to the Product Design Director, this role works closely with Product Design, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, Quality, and external suppliers to develop differentiated, high-quality consumer products from initial opportunity through launch.
The Product Director owns what products should be developed, why they should be developed, and the customer and business outcomes they must achieve. The Product Design Director owns how those products function, look, feel, and express the RENPHO brand.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Strategy and Roadmap
- Develop and maintain the product roadmap in collaboration with Product Design, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and senior management.
- Identify customer needs, market opportunities, technology trends, and gaps within the existing product portfolio.
- Prioritize projects based on customer value, differentiation, commercial potential, strategic fit, cost, and available resources.
- Reduce unnecessary product duplication and the development of undifferentiated OEM products.
Product Research and Planning
- Lead customer research, competitor analysis, market analysis, product review analysis, and post-launch learning.
- Define the target customer, customer problem, product positioning, key benefits, required features, target cost, and target retail price.
- Develop clear business cases and recommendations for new product opportunities.
- Identify suitable suppliers, technologies, and manufacturing partners where required.
Product Design Briefs
- Ensure every project begins with a complete, concise and consistent product design brief.
- Define product requirements, customer use cases, commercial objectives, channel needs, technical requirements, timelines, and regulatory considerations.
- Provide Product Design and other development teams with clear, researched, and actionable information.
- Control changes to product requirements and project scope throughout development.
Partnership with Product Design
- Work closely with the Product Design Director to translate product opportunities into distinctive and commercially viable products.
- Ensure product managers communicate customer and business requirements without prescribing superfluous design solutions.
- Support the protection of approved design intent throughout engineering, supplier development, tooling, and production.
- Escalate proposed changes that may compromise product quality, user experience, or brand consistency.
Product Development and Delivery
- Lead products from opportunity identification through design, engineering, validation, production, launch, and post-launch review.
- Coordinate Product Design, Engineering, Packaging, Application Development, Marketing, Sales, Quality, Regulatory, Legal, Finance, and Supply Chain.
- Establish clear project objectives, responsibilities, milestones, risks, costs, and decision points.
- Ensure products meet customer, commercial, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Identify and resolve product, supplier, technical, and commercial risks.
Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop the product manager team.
- Assign ownership of product categories and development programs.
- Establish consistent product management processes, templates, and reporting standards.
- Review and approve product opportunities, business cases, product briefs, and project recommendations.
- Build a culture of customer focus, accountability, collaboration, research, and long-term product thinking.
Launch and Post-Launch Management
- Ensure Sales and Marketing receive clear product positioning, customer benefits, feature priorities, and competitive advantages.
- Monitor product performance following launch, including customer feedback, reviews, returns, quality issues, sales, margin, and sell-through.
- Lead post-launch reviews and ensure findings are incorporated into future product improvements and roadmap decisions.
Experience and Qualifications
- Significant experience in product management, product development, or category leadership within consumer electronics, health and wellness, home appliances, or related consumer-product industries.
- Demonstrated experience leading product managers and cross-functional development teams.
- Experience taking physical consumer products from initial concept through manufacturing and launch.
- Strong knowledge of customer research, product strategy, competitive analysis, product positioning, pricing, cost management, and business-case development.
- Experience working with suppliers and manufacturers, preferably within China.
- Strong commercial judgment and an appreciation for industrial design, user experience, and brand consistency.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin.
- You are required to work from the Shenzhen office 2–3 days per week.
