The Role
The role would be suitable for a legal professional with experience in risk and regulatory compliance, preferably across Asia-Pacific. The successful candidate will be a member of the Risk Management & Compliance team (the “Team”), based in Hong Kong, China. On a daily basis, s/he is to support the Regional Head of Risk & Compliance in Asia-Pacific, and contribute to the efficient delivery of consistent and high-quality solutions for the firm and its partners and staff in the region, in relation to all risk & compliance issues, and to support the firm achieve its bold market ambitions.
What you will do
- Providing proactive support to partners, business services and other staff on all R&C enquiries, having and demonstrating the firm’s DNA at the heart of all his/her work
- Collaborating with Team members in the UK to ensure strategic alignment and delivery of consistent high-level advice
- Reinforcing understanding of and maintaining compliance with relevant law society rules, firm policies and guidelines
- Providing guidance on approach to, and review of, clients’ own terms, suppliers’ terms of business and secondment terms
- Supporting AML, sanctions, conflicts and financial crime escalations and ensuring their timely management and resolution, and that the team is following guidelines for escalations and delegations
- Assisting in research and working on broader risk issues, some of which may lead to firm-wide or regional projects, where there will be opportunity for involvement
- Building rapport with partners and attending meetings and presenting as needed
- Identifying and bridging knowledge gaps in risk & compliance issues
- Rolling out of new initiatives and technological advances to meet regulatory changes
- Maintaining regular dialogue with other business services to promote and integrate risk management and compliance into business operations to early detect and mitigate risks
- Staying abreast of relevant laws and the evolving regulatory landscape, and implementing necessary updates in a timely manner
About you
- Excellent team player and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to document analysis, methodology and proposals clearly and concisely
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work methodically and accurately
- Confident yet diplomatic – someone adept at explaining new concepts and tactfully challenging the status quo
- Ability and enthusiasm to handle complex workflow and team pressures by prioritising work effectively and appropriately identifying level of detail required for each matter
- Curious, and willing to learn and develop as the role itself evolves
- Excellent command of written and spoken English. Ability to speak Mandarin or Japanese a plus
- Experience of involvement in longer and/or multi-jurisdictional tasks or projects preferable
Qualifications
- 1-3 PQE / Proven proficiency and high performance working in a major international law firm
- Knowledge of professional bar rules
- Experience of Intapp desirable
- Experience of working within a centralised Risk Management & Compliance team.
- Ability to work across cultural barriers, not just in Asia Pacific but the UK and Europe

The role may require some working outside our normal working hours of 9:30am- 5:30pm.
