Senior Manager, Global Insurance Business Finance and Reporting

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Manager, Global Insurance Business Finance and Reporting.

In this role you will:

Accounting policy & technical advisory

Provide IFRS technical accounting advice on insurance manufacturing and distribution specific transactions and products, on non-insurance matters.
Interpret and apply applicable standards (e.g., IFRS 17/ IFRS 9 / IFRS 10/ IAS 28) and document conclusions in clear position papers.
Develop, maintain, and socialize accounting policies, interpretations, and implement guidance for manufacturing and distribution activities.
Support accounting assessments for new products, distribution arrangements, Level 3 assets and strategic initiatives (including partnerships).

Governance, controls, and documentation

Lead accounting policy governance: issue tracking, approvals, periodic reviews, and evidence retention.
Partner with Finance Control, Actuarial, and Group Accounting Policy to ensure policy positions are robust and auditable.
Ensure appropriate treatment and analysis of insurance-related expenses (e.g., acquisition cash flows, attributable vs non-attributable expenses, fulfilment cash flows) in line with the firm’s IFRS 17 methodology.

Financial reporting support

Advise on complex accounting judgements and estimates, including disclosures and presentation.
Review key reporting outputs for technical accuracy (e.g., IFRS 17 results, reinsurance accounting, commission and fee income, onerous contract considerations).
Support month-end/quarter-end close on technical topics and ensure consistent application across entities/markets.

Cost management

Collaborating with cost management lead to support cost management and analytics for managing Group Insurance costs, including projects.
Support cost planning and forecast activities for Global Insurance, including challenging sites and identifying cost risks and opportunities.
Drive partnering with the Global Insurance COO team to ensure reasonable staff and cost forecast/ plan, active participation in cost forums and oversight on Insurance Head Office costs and allocation.

Change and stakeholder management

Monitor emerging accounting developments and assess impacts; brief senior stakeholders and propose action plans.
Support finance transformation initiatives (e.g., IFRS 17 operating model, chart of accounts, subledger/actuarial engine changes, data and controls).
Train and coach finance teams on accounting policy topics; build a strong technical accounting community.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed accounting policy requirements into business processes.
Participate in finance transformation projects, including automation and system upgrades.

Leadership & Teamwork

Responsible for maintaining a strong control culture through compliance with HSBC risk frameworks, management of group-wide issues, and close collaboration with assurance, risk, and audit (internal & external) teams
Work closely with local Finance of insurance entities to optimise their solution design, act as a subject matter expert to support markets, and the Global development team, in developing and maintaining the Global IFRS17 solution.
Support learning and development of team members by real time coaching and constructive feedback
Actively engage key stakeholders to understand different viewpoints, questions, challenges and available options. Constructive discussion and feedback are encouraged to achieve the best outcome for the company

To be successful you will need:

Professional accounting qualification (CPA or equivalent), with strong working knowledge of IFRS17 and IFRS 9 principles and reporting.
12-15 years’ relevant experience in technical accounting/policy, financial reporting, audit, or controllership, with insurance exposure.
Experience writing technical accounting memos and presenting conclusions to senior governance forums
Understanding of actuarial concepts and insurance KPIs and products.
Disciplined approach to accounting policy, process and controls, with strong change management skills.
Significant experience in cost control, FP&A and/or performance analytics within Insurance or Financial Services
