The Power Semiconductors and Applications Center (PowerSAC), established under the SEAM@InnoHK initiative, is seeking a seasoned and strategically minded professional to serve as Executive Director.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Head of Center, the appointee will serve as the founding executive leader and responsible for establishing, operationalizing, and managing the overall operations and strategic execution of the PowerSAC Research Center. The role is suited for an experienced execution-oriented leader capable of building and scaling a research center from inception.
The position is based at the Hong Kong Science Park (Shatin), with regular travel to the Clear Water Bay Campus as required.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Organizational Leadership
- Lead the establishment and operationalization of the PowerSAC Research Center from inception and execute Board-approved strategies, operational plans, and institutional objectives.
- Work closely with the Head of Center, Associate Head(s), university collaborators, and industry partners, on strategic planning, operational alignment, and resource prioritization.
- Take primary responsibility for recruiting and setting up a complete engineering team across all grades of engineers and technicians.
- Oversee day-to-day operational management of the Center, including administration, finance, HR, procurement, and relation with HKUST.
- Lead the setup and operational coordination of laboratories and equipment.
- Monitor operational risks and ensure proper governance, compliance, and accountability across Center activities.
- Take direct responsibility for annual operational planning, budget preparation, and resource allocation coordination.
- Support the development of industry consortiums, collaborative programs, and strategic ecosystem partnerships.
- Encourage commercialization opportunities, corporate engagement, and collaborative innovation initiatives.
- Serve as a key public representative of the Center in local and international engagements and represent the Center at conferences, industry forums, government events, and strategic partnership activities.
Requirements
- Postgraduate (Master or Doctor) degree in Engineering, Science, Technology Management, or related disciplines.
- More than 10-year relevant leadership or management experience in research institutes, innovation centers, industry R&D, public-funded R&D environments, or related sectors.
- Proven experience in establishing, scaling, and managing complex organizations or institutional operations.
- Experience in operational management, strategic planning, organizational development, and institutional execution.
- Exposure to public-funded research programs, innovation ecosystems, or semiconductor/power electronics-related sectors is highly preferred.
- Strong communication, presentation, and public engagement skills.
- Demonstrated capability in policy development, operational governance, and performance management.
- Proficiency in English and Chinese (spoken and written).
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.
