SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL COUNSELLOR

NORD ANGLIA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, HONG KONG is looking to recruit a SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL COUNSELLOR (SEC) to join our Secondary team, to play a pivotal role in fostering a nurturing and supportive school environment that prioritises the mental health and wellbeing of our students. The SEC provides direct counselling services, developing proactive wellbeing programmes, and collaborating with staff and parents to support the personal, social, and emotional development of every student, enabling them to thrive academically and personally in line with our Be Ambitious philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:
A. Student Support & Wellbeing
Provide individual and small group counselling to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges, using evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
Conduct initial assessments to identify student needs and make appropriate referrals to external specialists when required.
B. Community Engagement & Partnership with Parents
Build strong, trusting relationships with parents and caregivers, offering guidance and strategies to support their child's social and emotional development at home.
Collaborate with the admissions team to support the smooth transition of new students and families into the school community.
C. Professional Collaboration & Development
D. Professional Practice & Training
Provide training and guidance to staff on identifying and supporting students with social and emotional needs.
Maintain accurate, confidential records of all counselling interactions in line with school policies and legal requirements.
E. Professional and Personal Development
The Successful Candidate will possess:
Essential
A recognised qualified to Bachelor Degree in Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work (Masters level preferred).
Professional accreditation or licensure (or eligibility for same) in the country of application.
Proven experience in providing counselling to children and adolescents.
Excellent knowledge of child and adolescent development and mental health issues.
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures and a commitment to student welfare.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with students, parents, and staff.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students, and a willingness to undertake appropriate international safeguarding training as part of our child protection policies when required.
The ability to integrate technology into the classroom experience to enhance and extend the learning of students
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for producing reports and presentations.
Good cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures.
Excellent analytical skills – with the passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success.
Hold a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure for all countries lived in
Compliance with visa requirements for working in Hong Kong
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils, and a willingness to undertake appropriate child protection training when required.
Desirable
Experience working within an international school setting.
Experience in designing and delivering wellbeing curricula or parent workshops.
Experience with crisis intervention and management.

You will be able to adapt quickly to our fast-paced international environment as well as meet visa-related restrictions for Hong Kong of the China Region, including a Qualified to Bachelor of Education or appropriate Degree with PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status, hold a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure or equivalent from other countries. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students, the willingness to undertake appropriate child protection training.
