CENTRALISED ANIMAL FACILITIES

Technical Support Assistant (Temporary Appointment) (Ref. 260312006)
[Appointment period: twelve months]

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) provide administrative and secretarial support for animal-related activities within the Centralised Animal Facilities (CAF), including customer service and the maintenance of the CAF operations;

(b) provide technical and operational support to the CAF and its users in terms of animal handling, animal breeding, daily operation and experimental techniques;

(d) liaise with staff and students from internal units and sister institutions on various aspects of animal husbandry and holding services;

(e) provide training and guidance to junior staff of the CAF;

(f) perform purchasing duties and liaise with suppliers, contractors and external parties;

(g) serve as stand-in for junior staff as and when required to maintain smooth operation of the CAF and uphold its hygienic standards; and

(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of CAF or his/her delegates.

The appointee will be required to work on shift and/or Saturdays/Sundays/public holidays.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a) have a recognised degree in Biotechnology, Animal Science or a related discipline, preferably with at least two years’ hands-on experience in handling laboratory animals;

(b) be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English and Chinese, with proficiency in Putonghua being an advantage;

(d) have good computer literacy including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and

(e) have good communication and interpersonal skills.
