The Assistant Institutional Research Manager plays a key role in supporting institutional research, data management and analysis to provide important insights for policy formation, strategic planning, research initiatives, budgets, student enrolment management and university ranking performance.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage the collection of key performance indicators and institutional data specific to the local higher education sector, including the University Accountability Agreement (UAA), Common Data Collection Format (CDCF), etc.
- Collect and consolidate CDCF data, university rankings-related data and other institutional reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy, consistency and completeness for submission
- Analyse institutional, research and rankings data and prepare reports, dashboards and analytics outputs to support decision-making by various stakeholders
- Collaborate with internal units and external bodies to align data definitions, formats and standards across different domains
- Work with IT teams to streamline data collection processes, enhance data validation and support the development of dashboards and reporting tools
- Provide secretarial and administrative support to committees and working groups
- Assist in ad hoc requests and projects
- Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Information Systems, Mathematics, Social Sciences, or relevant disciplines
- At least 5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in tertiary education institutions
- Strong data analytical skills with proven experience in statistical analysis, performance evaluation, institutional benchmarking and data visualisation
- Hands-on experience using Business Intelligence tools (e.g. Power BI) and proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation, automation and advanced analysis are highly preferred
- A good knowledge of higher education data reporting requirements (e.g. CDCF) and university rankings methodologies is advantageous
- Strong interpersonal, communication, coordination and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and foster effective teamwork
- Detail-oriented, highly organised and capable of working independently under pressure and tight deadlines
- An excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua)
- Occasional travelling and site visits may be required
Candidates with less experience will be considered for appointment at the rank of Senior Officer.
Salary and Fringe Benefits
The rank and commencing salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits, where applicable, include annual leave, medical and dental benefits and mandatory provident fund and gratuity.
