The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is responsible for the provision of desirable services for students of the University and enhancing their learning experience. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team dedicated to fostering whole-person development and a vibrant campus life of students.
Responsibilities
- Provide psychological counselling for students, including those with special educational needs (SEN), individually or in groups
- Utilise accurate and appropriate assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual counselling plans
- Conduct qualified psychological assessments for students in need
- Design and organise activities (e.g. workshops and seminars) for students to facilitate their mental health and personal development
- Initiate and coordinate university-wide programmes for the promotion of students’ psychological, spiritual and physical wellness (e.g. vaccination and blood donation)
- Handle crises related to students’ psychological problems
- Accommodate students of various cultures and backgrounds (including the in-bound exchange students) to campus life, and offer psychological preparation programmes to them
- Offer professional guidance, support and training to students’ parents and to staff members in helping students
- Support the operation of the counselling team including supervising the Assistant Counsellors and colleagues responsible for SEN services
- Use available technological resources to enhance the University’s counselling service
- Act as secretary of the University committee(s) as and when necessary
- Work outside normal office hours and on weekends if necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)
Requirements
- A recognised degree or above in clinical psychology, educational psychology, counselling psychology or equivalent disciplines
- At least 10 years’ relevant post-qualification experience, preferably in tertiary institutions or public sector
- A sound knowledge about and well versed in managing students’ mental distress and facilitating their personal development
- A caring, empathic, optimistic and responsible disposition
- An excellent mastery of interpersonal communication, problem-solving skills, and teamwork relation
- A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua)
- A high calibre to work under tight timelines with a positive attitude
- A holder of membership in the relevant professional society is an advantage
Candidates with less/more experience will be considered for appointment at a relevant rank.
Salary and Fringe Benefits
The rank and commencing salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits, where applicable, include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, and gratuity.
