Bauhinia Experiential Learning Limited (BELL) is a not-for-profit organization under The Independent Schools Foundation Limited (ISFA). The principal activity of BELL is to advance education through the provision of programs, courses, activities and services pertaining to experiential learning; Chinese creativity and culture; co-curricular activities; music and sports, and other similar programs, courses, activities and services which would enhance and develop the virtues, life skills, characteristics and leadership qualities for children and youth in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
BELL has recently acquired the Bauhinia Experiential Learning Centre in Shek Pik. Situated on a 7,230 sq. meter site along the southern coastline of Lantau Island, the Centre represents an exceptional opportunity to further our mission: to cultivate independent thinkers grounded in Chinese virtues and a global outlook through intentional, nature-based learning.

Reporting to the General Manager, we are now seeking an accomplished and visionary Director of Experiential Learning to lead the strategic development, operations, and experiential learning programs of BELL and the Centre.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Experiential Learning Program
Strategic Program Leadership & Client Partnership
- Develop and execute a strategic vision for BELL’s experiential learning portfolio to achieve excellence, financial sustainability, and measurable impact;
- Serve as the lead designer of bespoke curricula for school groups, corporate clients, and community organisations;
- Cultivate long-term client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and ensuring alignment with evolving needs;
- Champion program innovation through new methodologies, technologies, and experiential approaches; and
- Oversee the master program calendar to optimise resources, enhance client experience, and ensure operational efficiency.
Experiential Excellence & Community Engagement
- Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of interdisciplinary learning experiences, including guided explorations, field studies, workshops, and special events (e.g., Earth Day, cultural festivals);
- Ensure programs are accessible, engaging, culturally grounded, and aligned with themes of natural history, environmental stewardship, and Chinese cultural understanding;
- Plan and deliver professional development workshops in collaboration with local and international education partners;
- Build strong partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and community groups; and
- Evaluate program effectiveness using feedback and data to maintain the highest standards of quality.
2. Experiential Learning Management
This senior leadership role oversees the full lifecycle of program development and delivery—from strategic planning and client engagement to seamless execution and ongoing enhancement. Working closely with experiential learning facilitators, coordinators and managerial team, the Director will drive a culture of excellence, safety, and innovation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with the BELL General Manager to develop and implement short-, medium-, and long-term strategic plans for the Experiential Learning Program, Outdoor Exploration Society and the Bauhinia Experiential Learning Centre, including planned renovations and upgrades for this wilderness Centre;
- Lead the Experiential Learning Team in equipment management and ensure the effective coordination and delivery of all experiential learning programs;
- Monitor the performance of vendors and service providers to ensure adherence to specifications and service standards;
- Work closely with ISF’s Facilities Management, Finance, and Procurement teams to maintain high safety and operational standards;
- Lead the development of local and international experiential learning programs for preschool to Grade 12 students and teachers, including week-long residential camps, overnight camps, team-building programs, training initiatives, and new wilderness-based offerings at the Centre;
- Establish strategies for community outreach and charitable programs, and oversee their implementation;
- Oversee program operations, including planning, scheduling, and participant enrolment;
- Ensure all programs align with ISF’s educational philosophy and comply with strict safety protocols;
- Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, and activity guidelines;
- Manage incident reporting, prepare budgets, and compile annual activity reports; and
- Build and maintain strong relationships with neighbouring communities to the Centre, including Tung Wan, Shek Pik, and surrounding settlements.
3. Operational & Team Leadership
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of educators, program facilitators, and support staff;
- Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring exceptional safety, logistics, and customer service;
- Manage procurement, maintenance, and inventory of educational, recreational, and safety equipment;
- Develop and oversee program budgets to ensure sustainability and financial responsibility; and
- Lead marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives, including social media, promotional materials, and official reports to elevate the Centre’s visibility and impact.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Science, Outdoor Education, Business Leadership, or related fields; a Master’s degree and/or teaching qualification is highly preferred;
- Strong technical skills in outdoor education, including high elements and water activities; local knowledge is advantageous;
- Minimum 8–10 years of progressive leadership experience, including at least 5 years in program management, operations, and client relations within educational, experiential, or outdoor environments;
- Proven experience in strategic planning, organisational growth, and P&L management;
- Expertise in curriculum design, client consultation, and partnership development;
- Strong financial, analytical, and project management capabilities;
- Exceptional leadership, public speaking, communication, and team development skills;
- Strong administrative skills and proficiency in Google Documents, Sheets and other applications preferred. Knowledge in AI usage is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of outdoor safety standards, experiential learning pedagogy, and environmental education principles;
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, public holidays, and travel as required;
- Willingness to spend more than half of the working time at the Lantau campsite, with additional work at the BELL office;
- Fluency in English. Fluency in Cantonese or Mandarin is advantageous; and
- A passionate commitment to nature-based experiential learning and to building a sustainable future.
