Salary: HK$19,120 per month
Entry Requirements:Candidates should have –
(a) completed the first year of a two-year full-time Higher Diploma programme in Analytical Science offered by the Vocational Training Council (VTC) in 2025/2026 and obtained a pass in study; and
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of “Level 2” or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [Note (1)].
Note:
(1) For appointment purpose, “Grade E” in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to “Level 2” in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(2) Applicants who have registered as current apprentices under the Apprenticeship Ordinance (Chapter 47) will not be considered.
(3) Successful candidates will receive subsidy of tuition fee, if applicable. Environmental Protection Department (EPD) will arrange eligible Analytical Testing Technicians to join the “Earn and Learn” Scheme (the Scheme) launched by the Vocational Training Council. Technicians who successfully join the Scheme shall receive subsidy and government allowance in instalments within the training period up to a total amount of HK$84,800.
(4) The signed contract of appointment will be voided should the candidates appointed fail to prove that they have met the entry requirements.
(5) EPD will arrange registration of the Analytical Testing Technicians with the Office of the Director of Apprenticeship as Apprentice under the Apprenticeship Ordinance in the relevant trade. The Analytical Testing Technician shall meet the following conditions in order to be awarded the certificate of completion of apprenticeship endorsed by the Director of Apprenticeship: (a) completed the designated course offered by the VTC; and (b) attained satisfactory performance during the training period and passed the trade test.
(6) The Analytical Testing Technician shall, throughout the whole training period, study the part-time Higher Diploma programme in Analytical Science at the VTC and attend the daytime and/ or evening classes according to the timetable set by the institution.
Duties:
(a) To assist in the operation and testing of water, sediments and biota samples at the Department’s water science laboratories;
(b) To assist with field work, including water, sediment and biota sample collection, as well as on-site measurements;
(c) To assist in the operation, calibration and maintenance of water quality monitoring equipment;
(d) To assist in the design of publicity and teaching materials on environmental protection achievements in Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong; and
(e) To perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Other Job-related Requirements: The hours and venues of work may be varied having regard to the operational needs of the department. Successful candidate may be required to (a) work irregular hours and overtime, including evenings, weekends, Sundays and public holidays; (b) work outdoors/ in remote areas; (c) engage in physically demanding work; (d) work with computer; and (e) wear uniform/ protective clothing provided by the department.
Terms of Appointment:Successful candidate will be appointed on contract terms and receive training for a period of two years.
