Technical Officer - Department of Ocean Science

The Department of Ocean Science is looking for a high caliber candidate to fill a Technical Officer position. The appointee will be responsible for providing administrative and technical support to the daily operation and maintenance of the various equipment and facilities in the OCES. His/her responsibilities include:

Manage the IT network infrastructure, and virtual servers for the department.
Assist in installing, configuring, diagnose and troubleshoot, upgrading and inventory control of software and hardware components of computer and network systems for the department.
Liaise with IT Office to ensure the network security and infrastructure upgrade exercises to uphold cybersecurity standards of the department.
Prepare laboratories for academic courses and research projects, maintain the upkeep of communal equipment and experimental material supplies.
Provide training in the use of experimental equipment and facilities to users and ensure smooth instrumental operations.
Assist in monitoring laboratory safety and access control in compliance with the University's safety regulations and conduct safety training to research staff of the laboratories.
Perform any other duties as assigned by senior management.

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in science disciplines, or a relevant higher diploma/higher certificate with at least 2 years of post-qualification working experience in biology or chemistry laboratories. Experience in laboratory management and administration, providing IT support to a Department is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate should have a strong sense of responsibility, be self-initiative and able to multi-task and work independently as well as in a team. As a liaison person for the team, he/she should have good communication skills on inter-departmental tasks and be an intra-departmental communication bridge among different user groups of the laboratory. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
