Role Purpose:
The position holder(s) is responsible for driving sales and ensuring the smooth operation of assigned product categories within the eCommerce platform. This role involves monitoring sales performance, analyzing competitor offers, and reacting promptly to market changes
A typical day in this Role:
Category Officer - eTrading involves a comprehensive set of responsibilities aimed at driving sales and ensuring smooth operations across various functions. The key responsibilities include:
- Monitor Sales and Competitor Offers: Regularly track sales performance and analyze competitors' offers to make informed decisions and react promptly to market changes
- Manage Product Categories and Promotions: Oversee the assigned product categories, plan and execute promotional activities to achieve sales targets. This includes sourcing trendy products through partnerships with new suppliers and managing product placement at offline stores to convert offline customers to online purchases
- Vendor Relationships: Foster and manage relationships with vendors to achieve better pricing and quality of services. Negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive prices and additional benefits such as freebies.
- Lead Campaigns: Lead assigned campaigns with strong eCommerce promotion offers, ensuring they are compelling and effective in driving sales
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including marketing, supply chain, customer service, and IT to ensure seamless operation flow
- Promotion Forecasting and Inventory Management: Collaborate with the supply chain team to provide promotion forecasts and ensure optimal inventory levels
- Coordinate with Offline Trading Team: Work with the offline trading team to manage product listings and organize online and offline (O+O) activities
- Marketplace Management: Manage partnerships with platforms such as Foodpanda, Deliveroo, HSBC R+, Aomi, and PNS shop-in-shop, including overseeing product listings, coordinating promotions, and ensuring that the products are well-represented on these platforms
- Product Lifecycle Management: Oversee the product lifecycle, including decisions about product positioning, pricing, and exit strategies for unsuccessful products
- Online Exclusive Business Model: Involve developing and managing online exclusive business models, such as Supplier Direct Delivery and Virtual Products, including sourcing trendy products through partnerships with new suppliers and managing product placement
- Budget Management: Responsible for budget forecast submission and review, ensuring alignment with financial goals

- Technical Skills:
- Ecommerce Platforms: Proficiency in current ecommerce platforms and staying updated with emerging trends
- Advance Digital Tools: Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software to analyze and interpret sales data.
- Data & Market Analysis: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make strategic decisions. Knowledge of O+O and consumer behavior trends, including digital marketing.
- Management Skills:
- Project Management: Strong project management skills to oversee various facets of online operations and marketing strategies.
- Supplier and Inventory Management: Collaborate with Supply Chain team to manage the online inventory levels and understanding ecommerce logistics.
- Category Management skills:
- Product Range: Proven experience in category management or related roles, with a track record of driving sales growth and profitability.
- Negotiation skills: Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills to effectively collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Communication Skills:
- Presentation: Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate category strategies and plans to stakeholders.
- Customer Focus: Ability to understand and align with the company's target demographic and unique brand identity to enhance customer experience.
