Tushih is seeking a Senior Researcher to conduct research and development on functional ceramic microfiltration membranes produced from steel slag. The appointee will develop cost-effective membrane materials for treating and recycling wastewater generated by hydrogen production, fuel-cell testing, construction activities, and iron and steel operations.

The research will focus on converting metallurgical solid waste into high-performance membranes with integrated filtration, adsorption, and catalytic functions. The appointee will investigate membrane preparation, functional modification, fouling control, regeneration, and continuous operation in real industrial wastewater.

The appointee will:

Characterize steel slag to evaluate its mineral phases, particle characteristics, and reactivity.
Develop and optimize steel slag pretreatment procedures.
Optimize binder formulations, pore-forming agents, and sintering conditions to achieve an effective balance between membrane strength, porosity, water flux, and filtration efficiency.
Evaluate the removal of suspended solids, heavy metals, emulsified oil, and refractory organic pollutants from simulated and authentic industrial wastewater.
Investigate adsorption and catalytic purification mechanisms.
Study membrane-fouling mechanisms involving colloidal deposition, oil adhesion, pore blockage, organic adsorption, and inorganic scaling.
Optimize operating parameters such as cross-flow velocity and filtration pressure, and develop online backwashing and chemical regeneration procedures.
Design and operate a continuous bench-scale pilot system for long-term wastewater treatment and membrane-performance validation.
Assess treated-water quality, membrane service life, operating costs, and economic performance against commercial ceramic membrane products.
Support the integration of the membrane system with portable hydrogen generators and wastewater-recycling applications.
Prepare experimental records, technical reports, scientific publications, patent applications, and project deliverables.

Applicants should possess:

A master’s degree or above in energy and environmental engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, chemistry, or a related discipline.
Research experience in catalyst materials, ceramic membranes, wastewater treatment, solid waste valorization, or related material-development fields.
Knowledge of membrane fabrication, sintering, filtration, adsorption, catalysis, membrane fouling, or regeneration technologies.
Familiarity with response surface methodology, statistical modelling, or simulation tools would be an advantage.
A record of peer-reviewed publications, patent applications, or other relevant research outputs.
Strong experimental, analytical, troubleshooting, and technical-writing capabilities.
Good written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate research findings effectively.
The ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary academic and industrial teams.
