About us

Hong Kong Quantum AI Lab (HKQAI) is assembling the team for a Physical AI for Science venture.

HKQAI is an R&D centre jointly established by The University of Hong Kong and the California Institute of Technology, with research spanning quantum chemistry, artificial intelligence and robotics.

We are building self-driving laboratories, in which AI agents design workflows, simulation platforms evaluate candidates, robots execute experiments, and every result feeds back into the next cycle.

About the role

You will lead the technical design of our Physical AI for Science platform.

We are looking for someone with

A degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering or a related discipline from a top institution
Evidence of exceptional technical ability
Strong product and engineering judgement
Experience with AI agents, automation, high-throughput platforms, or scientific infrastructure would be an advantage

Key responsibilities

Architect the end-to-end Physical AI for Science platform connecting AI agents, scientific computation, experiment planning, robotic execution, laboratory instruments and experimental data
Work with materials scientists to convert experimental procedures into structured workflows
Work with robotics engineers to define the boundary between laboratory orchestration and robotic execution
Work with AI engineers to give agents safe and structured access to simulations, scientific software, experimental tools and physical systems
Own the technology roadmap
