Role Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Freelance Linguistic Editor to review, refine, and enhance written content for clarity, accuracy, consistency, and overall quality. The successful candidate will work on a flexible, project-based basis to ensure that all written materials meet high linguistic, stylistic, and editorial standards across different content types and audiences.

The Freelance Linguistic Editor will be responsible for proofreading and editing a wide range of content, including reports, articles, marketing materials, academic texts, business documents, and digital content. The role involves ensuring grammatical correctness, improving sentence structure, enhancing readability, and maintaining consistency in tone, terminology, and style.

Key responsibilities include reviewing content for spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and formatting errors while preserving the original meaning and intent of the text. The individual will refine language flow, improve coherence, and ensure adherence to specified style guides, editorial standards, or client requirements.

The role also involves fact-checking linguistic accuracy where applicable, identifying ambiguous or unclear phrasing, and recommending improvements to enhance clarity and precision. The Freelance Linguistic Editor will collaborate with writers, content creators, translators, and subject matter experts to ensure high-quality output.

In addition, the successful candidate will ensure consistency in terminology, tone of voice, and formatting across multiple documents or content batches. The role includes working with multilingual content where applicable, ensuring linguistic accuracy and cultural appropriateness.

The Freelance Linguistic Editor will also manage deadlines independently, prioritize multiple projects, and deliver high-quality edited content within agreed timelines. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, English, Communications, Translation Studies, Journalism, or a related field.
Proven experience in editing, proofreading, copy editing, or linguistic review.
Strong command of grammar, syntax, punctuation, and stylistic conventions.
Familiarity with major style guides such as APA, MLA, Chicago, or in-house editorial standards.
Experience working with digital content, academic writing, business communication, or marketing materials.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency across large volumes of text.
Excellent written communication skills and strong language intuition.
Ability to manage multiple freelance projects and meet deadlines independently.
Experience with editing tools, CMS platforms, or collaborative writing software is advantageous.
Familiarity with translation review or multilingual editing is a plus.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work remotely with minimal supervision.
