Role Description:

The Principal Quantity Surveyor is responsible for leading cost management, commercial planning, and financial control across large-scale construction or infrastructure projects. This role ensures that projects are delivered within budget while maintaining quality, contractual compliance, and value for money. The position provides senior-level expertise in cost estimation, contract administration, procurement strategy, and commercial risk management throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include preparing, reviewing, and validating detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities, and cost plans at various project stages. The Principal Quantity Surveyor oversees cost forecasting, budget control, and financial reporting to ensure accurate tracking of project expenditures against approved budgets. The role also evaluates design changes, variations, and claims, ensuring fair and accurate cost implications are assessed and managed effectively.

The position is responsible for managing procurement strategies, tendering processes, and contract negotiations with contractors, suppliers, and consultants. Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of quantity surveying principles, construction cost management, contract law, procurement methods, and project finance. Deep understanding of construction processes and industry standards is essential.

Excellent analytical and numerical skills with the ability to prepare accurate cost estimates, financial forecasts, and detailed cost analyses. Strong attention to detail and precision in financial evaluation are required.

Experience with construction contracts, procurement strategies, tender evaluation, claims management, and commercial negotiation. Familiarity with standard forms of contract and dispute resolution processes is highly valuable.

Proficiency in cost management software, spreadsheets, and construction project management tools. Ability to analyze large datasets related to project costs, materials, and resources is beneficial.
