Role Description

The Senior Safety Officer / Assistant Safety Manager – Civil and Building is responsible for supporting and implementing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management systems across civil and building construction projects. This role ensures that all site activities comply with applicable safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices, with the objective of maintaining a safe and incident-free working environment.

Key responsibilities include conducting regular site inspections, identifying potential hazards, and ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented effectively. The role involves developing and delivering safety induction programs, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training to site personnel. It also includes monitoring contractor compliance, reviewing risk assessments and method statements, and supporting incident investigation processes to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.

The position works closely with project managers, engineers, and site teams to embed a strong safety culture across all levels of operations. It requires proactive engagement in daily site activities, continuous risk evaluation, and the ability to respond effectively to emerging safety concerns. The role also contributes to the continuous improvement of HSE systems and ensures accurate documentation and reporting of safety performance metrics.

Qualifications

Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and construction site safety standards
Experience in civil and building construction environments with exposure to large-scale projects
Ability to conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigations
Strong communication and training skills, with the ability to engage site personnel at all levels
Solid understanding of safety management systems and regulatory compliance requirements
Ability to work independently in field environments and make sound safety decisions under pressure
Strong attention to detail with a proactive approach to preventing incidents
Good coordination and stakeholder management skills across contractors and project teams
Certification in occupational safety and health (or equivalent professional qualification preferred)
