The University is carrying out a 3-year project funded by the Education Bureau via Quality Education Fund (QEF) with an aim to strengthen students’ reading, writing, questioning, and critiquing skills. This project integrates artificial intelligence with engaging gameplay and a structured reading framework, enabling students to interact with both physical and electronic books in a fun, interactive way. Players earn points and level up by completing book-based challenges across four quests, while teachers benefit from auto-grading, AI moderation, and detailed feedback report.

We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in Office for Advancement of Learning and Teaching (ALTO):

Assistant Manager (Language Learning) / Language Learning Officer (ALTO) (Ref: 26001CC)

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

Designing and developing interactive reading, writing, questioning and critiquing tasks for Primary and Secondary students that leverage gamification and AI, in alignment with the PIRLS framework, EDB word lists, and suggested modules/units;
Developing engaging, game-based activities that cater to diverse learning styles, promote critical thinking and encourage active reading habits;
Reviewing existing platform materials and providing constructive feedback to enhance their effectiveness and quality;
Working closely with the project team to enrich the overall learning experience and ensure high-quality educational content that aligns with curriculum standards;
Planning and implementing promotional campaigns to recruit schools for participation in the pilot scheme, including but not limited to coordination of school visits, representing the project at external expos, and delivering seminars; and
Preparing and compiling quarterly progress reports and final project report, and performing ad hoc and other administrative duties related to the project.

Candidates

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

A recognized degree in Education / English Language / Linguistics, preferably a higher degree in educational technology, instructional design or related discipline;
Substantial years of relevant post-qualification experience, preferably with proven experience in teaching English, particularly reading and writing skills as well as vocabulary learning, in Hong Kong Primary and Secondary Schools;
Deep understanding of the English Language Curriculum (Key stages 1 to 3) and the PIRLS framework;
Technology skills in education, with experience in the use of computer- based/ mobile technology /AI tools / gamification for multimedia and online course development/design;
A native English speaker preferred; and
Strong communication and presentation skills.

Candidates with less experience or qualifications may be considered for appointment as Language Learning Officer.

Shortlisted candidates may be invited to participate in a trade test.

Terms and Conditions for Appointment

An attractive remuneration package, including basic salary, an end-of-contract gratuity, and a discretionary incentive payment, where applicable, will be offered to the right candidates. Generous annual leave, staff-development sponsorships, medical and dental benefits, and life insurance coverage will also be provided.

Successful candidates will be appointed on a 1-year full-time contract on project basis.
