About this Role:
Own technical delivery of product development programmes for international markets, partnering with key stakeholders to ensure products meet specifications, internal standards, regulatory requirements, and commercial objectives. Provide category-wide technical leadership in electrical engineering, product safety, and compliance to enable safe and successful market launches.
What you will be doing:
Electrical Engineering & Risk Management
- Provide expert review of electrical designs, including circuitry, PCB layouts, power systems, and electromechanical components.
- Lead structured risk assessments (e.g. hazard analysis, misuse scenarios) to support safe, robust product development.
- Define additional safety protections aligned with consumer usage, foreseeable misuse, and real‑world operating conditions.
Product Safety, Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
- Lead compliance activities against applicable consumer product safety standards and regulatory frameworks across global markets.
- Define, manage, and oversee certification, verification, and regulatory approval strategies to ensure launch readiness.
- Act as the technical authority on product safety decisions, balancing compliance, risk, and commercial objectives.
Testing, Verification & Certification
- Determine appropriate testing strategies, levels of due diligence, and conformity routes based on product risk and market requirements.
- Support and review product validation, safety testing, EMC testing, and certification outcomes.
- Ensure test plans, reports, and technical files meet internal and external regulatory expectations.
Quality, Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Investigate product failures, returns, and customer complaints, leading root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
- Use field performance data, customer insight, and competitor benchmarking to drive continuous improvement in product quality and safety.
- Embed learnings into future product development and supplier requirements.
Category & Commercial Support
- Provide clear, structured technical input into buying and development decisions through robust technical briefs.
- Conduct market and competitor benchmarking to support category quality, differentiation, and innovation strategies.
- Actively contributes to emerging technology adoption aligned with category and business innovation plans.
Cross-Functional & Supplier Collaboration
- Partner with internal teams (technical, quality, manufacturing, commercial) to ensure development readiness and reliable product launch.
- Work closely with suppliers to ensure technical, safety, and compliance requirements are fully understood and met prior to supply.
- Challenge and support suppliers to improve design quality, compliance maturity, and risk management capabilities.
What you'll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Formal training or certification in Product Safety, Risk Assessment, or Regulatory Compliance is highly desirable.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional accreditation preferred.
- Significant experience in electrical engineering within consumer products, electronic beauty, or regulated product categories.
- Proven track record of leading product safety, regulatory compliance, and certification activities across multiple markets (e.g. CE/UKCA, IEC, EMC, CB Scheme, FCC, etc.).
- Hands-on experience conducting and reviewing risk assessments, hazard analyses, and safety justifications throughout the product lifecycle.
- Strong background in testing, verification, and validation, including safety and EMC testing strategies.
- Experience investigating product failures, returns, and customer complaints, with demonstrated capability in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Commercial experience supporting buying, sourcing, or category decisions, translating technical risk into clear, pragmatic recommendations.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with quality, manufacturing, procurement, and commercial teams.
- Experience engaging and managing suppliers, including technical reviews, compliance readiness, and capability assessment.
