PREAMBLE
Reporting to Operations Director, the Operations Manager is responsible for the operational aspects and uptime of the data center. He / She will oversee the day-to-day site operations and ensure that work is done safely, on time, on budget and to the right quality standard, in according with data center Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) and Emergency Operations Procedures (EOP).
ROLE SUMMARY
Operations Manager will manage a team of engineers / technicians to ensure proper operations and maintenance of the data center and related infrastructure including installation of server hardware and components and take charge of installations and troubleshooting within the site, physical security, compliance, vendor management and oversight of projects affecting the data center. Additionally, the DC Operations Manager will work in close collaboration with the data center facilities manager and their team.
He / She is ensuring each shift is staffed with employees processing proper qualifications and must possess strong management and interpersonal skills. He or She is responsible for evaluations and coaching of his or her direct reports and their direct reports.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Leadership
- Lead day‑to‑day operations of operations teams, ensuring service levels, accuracy, and turnaround times are consistently met.
- Establish and enforce standardized operating procedures, workflows, and quality controls across all service functions.
- Monitor operational performance through dashboards, KPIs, and analytics, taking proactive action to address gaps.
- Management of large-scale events in the data center(s).
- Become a subject master in data center operations.
- Partner with the Operations Team peers and global program teams to drive and implement consistency in your operational programs across all data centers.
- Work closely with local facility engineering staff to ensure all infrastructure systems are operating within established tolerances, proactively maintained.
Performance Management
- Develop and maintain performance metrics and operational scorecards.
- Conduct and lead regular scenarios drills to ensure the team is familiar with the site operations and procedure.
- Drive root‑cause analysis and corrective action plans for recurring issues or service failures.
- Vendor management / monitor vendor performance.
Process Optimization & Automation
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, eliminate inefficiencies, and enhance productivity.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the central coordination point between operations, customer service, IT, compliance, and business units.
- Support new prospect launches, policy changes, and operational transitions by ensuring readiness and smooth execution.
- Communicate operational insights, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
People Management
- Manage, coach, and develop frontline staff to build a high‑performing operations team.
- Oversee workforce planning, scheduling, and capacity management to meet fluctuating service demands.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Risk, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure operational processes comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.
- Maintain strong controls to mitigate operational risks and ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Lead incident management and escalation processes when service disruptions occur.
Customer Management
- Coordinate with clients to fulfill Remote-Hands/Smart-Hands requirements and to ensure proper notification and communication.
- Analyze / Ensure SLAs and ensure that service and operational levels are met.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- University or College degree or certification(s) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or equivalent work experience
- At least five years’ experience managing operations in Production data center, 3 years of experience managing technical teams and team leader
- Working knowledge of physical Enterprise-class IT infrastructures (e.g. Servers, SANs, Networking, etc.)
- Project Management skills
- In-depth knowledge and experience of change / incident management.
- Expertise in identifying and solving problems
- Proven ability to lead and motivate
- Solid communication skills set (decision making, confrontation management, commitment, coaching the team)
- Willingness and flexibility to work flexible hours, non-core business hours, or other scenarios required by rhythm of the business
- Knowledge and /or experience of Power, Cooling & Facilities Engineering inside a data center
- Knowledge and /or experience of PC hardware architecture, maintenance, and repair
- Knowledge and /or experience of data center racking and cabling
- Knowledge and / or experience of physical - IT security
- Data Center related certification - CDCP/S/E, CDCMP/TP
- Microsoft/Linux/UNIX certification and/or administration experience
- Network certification - CCNA, Network+.
- Ability to coordinate and host conference calls and/or escalation bridges with internal customers and all levels of management including Senior Leadership
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with English and Cantonese
