Job Overview
To correctly identify the required repairs and services on vehicles purchased by TruckStore as well as Agents according to DTSA standards and specifications. Providing quality service, achieving the required productivity and efficiency levels with emphasis on overall costs. Prepare a job specification for all work to be carried out on the vehicle in line with what was planned for in compliance to the Company's Integrity & Anti Bribery Codes, Conflict of Interest Policy & S.H.E. requirements and to perform delegated S.H.E. tasks and duties & to inform superior about deviations.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Vehicle Inspection
- Conduct end-to-end vehicle condition assessments (mechanical, electrical, digital).
- Perform advanced diagnostics and predictive fault identification.
- Evaluate vehicle health based on age, mileage, and usage.
- Produce accurate, audit-ready inspection reports.
Quality Services
- Analyse accurately vehicle requirements according to TruckStore standards and action accordingly.
- Maintain a fixed right first-time policy by ensuring quality inspection reporting on the relevant platform.
- Ensure vehicles are thoroughly examined and report in writing on general conditions with emphasis on safety.
- Establish authorization for extra work.
- Ensure all work carried out to DTSA and other OEM standards.
- Ensure maximum use of servicing knowledge and skill to achieve effective and safety quality inspection.
- Communicate on an ongoing basis to relevant team members on any changes in completion time, additional services needed ensuring quality is not compromised.
- Protect vehicles and safeguard their contents.
- Improve and maintain quality service to agreed standards.
Cost Control
- Provide costed repair estimates (parts, labour, refurbishment).
- Link technical conditions to pricing and resale value.
- Balance cost efficiency with uncompromised quality.
- Ensure all hours and material usage are accurately recorded.
- Ensure that utmost care is taken avoiding any damage to vehicles and components during inspection process.
Product knowledge and training
- Attend all training identified by management to ensure a high product knowledge skill level.
- Maintain and develop the skill level on all DTSA and other relevant diagnostic equipment.
- Accept responsibility for the transfer of skills to any other party requiring teaching, mentoring, coaching to ensure learning outcomes are achieved.
Vehicle administration process
- Ensure all TruckStore processes, including documentation, are handled in a speedy and accurate manner to ensure efficiency and excellent customer service.
Tools, equipment and housekeeping
- Ensure all tools are kept in good condition and are used correctly.
Use the standard tools required by DTSA.
- Minimum Grade 12/N3 Mechanical Engineering.
- Valid trade certificate: Diesel Mechanic.
Experience
- A minimum of 2–3 years’ relevant working experience in a specialized field.
- 3-5 years’ technical and product knowledge of Commercial Vehicles.
Special Knowledge
- Product knowledge with technical background.
- Mercedes-Benz Technical Maintenance level a pre-requisite.
- Computer literacy - Proficiency in Ms Office.
