The General Secretary will report directly to the Chair and be accountable to the General Committee in its mission to protect, improve, and advance the interests of the Association's Members and the professional interests of aircrew generally.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning: Work with the Chair and the General Committee to develop and implement strategic plans for the union.
Project management.
Support to the General Committee and Sub Committees: Act as a pivotal support system for the elected General Committee. This encompasses the preparation of meeting agendas, documentation of meeting minutes, and fostering open and effective communication among committee members. Serve as the connective tissue between various committee members, ensuring their tasks align with the strategic directions set forth by the General Committee. Facilitate a seamless transition during the annual turnover of Elected Officers, thereby ensuring continuity and stability within the union’s leadership structure.
Provide advice and guidance to the General Committee to assist them in making decisions.
Policy Implementation: Implement policies as decided by the General Committee. Ensure that these policies are communicated to all members and are adhered to within the union.
Representation: Represent the union at external meetings, conferences, and negotiations. Act as the primary public spokesperson for the union, responsible for managing media and public relations and ensuring the effective delivery of communications to the media.
Member Services: Oversee the provision of services to union members with assistance from the membership manager. This could include handling grievances, coordinating legal advice, and organising training programs.
Collaboration: Coordinate and liaise with international organisations and pilot unions. Coordinate and liaise with other local trade union organisations, including the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions, the Flight Attendants' Union (FAU), and the Local Staff Union (LSU), as well as other relevant employee associations.
Government and Industry: Maintain communications and exchange information with Government Departments and the Registrar of Trade Unions.
Administration: Oversee and work with the Office Manager on the day-to-day administration of the union. This includes managing staff, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including the Trade Union Ordinance.
Financial Management: Responsible for the financial management of the union, including budgeting, financial reporting, and ensuring the financial viability of the union.
Perform ad hoc duties as required.

Qualifications:

Fluent in Cantonese and English.
Preferred experience in a similar role within a trade union or related organisation.
Strong leadership and management skills.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of employment law and industrial relations.
Ability to work under pressure and handle conflict.
A degree in a relevant field (such as Business Administration, Law, or Industrial Relations) is preferred.
Experience in public governance preferred.
Government administrative officer experience.
