Part-time instructors (Choral Instrumental Programme )

YCIS Hong Kong (Primary) is seeking passionate and dedicated part-time instructors to deliver the Choral Instrumental Programme (CIP), a specialised music initiative integrated within our formal music curriculum. For 2025-26 , we are seeking qualified and experienced instructors in the following instruments or families of instruments: violin, viola, cello, woodwind, brass and double bass.

Key Responsibilities:

Teach small groups of students from Year 4 to Year 6 during school hours on a weekly basis according to the school calendar, as assigned by the Arts Programme Officer.
Engage, inspire, and motivate students to develop an interest in instrumental music .
Encourage students to share their musical talents through performances .
Cater to students of varying skill levels , from beginners to those with one to two years of instrumental experience.
Lessons will ordinarily be conducted in group settings and may contain a range of instruments (but all from the same family) in a single lesson.
Demonstrate effective classroom management skills to foster a positive learning environment, aligned with the YCIS mission and its principles and practices .

Other Responsibilities:

• Providing students with a programme of learning tailored to their individual needs and learning styles.

• Teach foundational music theory to support the learning of the instrument

• Participate in and/or direction of instrumental ensembles , where required by and in cooperation with the Arts Programme Officer.

• Prepare students for CIP Assembly class performance and other performance opportunities within the school, as advised by the Arts Programme Officer.

• Attend evening End of Year Concerts , for which remuneration will be provided.

• Prepare a report and evaluation for each student at the end of the semester.

• Attend CIP teacher meetings, as required.

Additional Requirements:

• A recognised university degree/diploma in music, AND/OR

• Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Diploma or equivalent

• Experience with group instruction /at least 2 years of teaching experience

• Familiarity with lesson planning and music educational methods

• Ideally possess enthusiasm, adaptability, communication skills, creativity, and teamwork

• Exhibits a good level of performance on at least one instrument

• Demonstrates patience, the ability to work independently, effective problem-solving skills, and proficiency with relevant technological tools .

• Fluency in English, Mandarin and Cantonese is highly desirable.
