The German Swiss International School (GSIS) is one of Hong Kong's leading international schools providing quality, holistic education to a multinational student body of approximately 1300 students and 240 faculty and staff. The school is organised into two Streams, German and English leading to qualifications in the German International Abitur and I/GCSE & IBDP respectively. We are inviting applications for the following position commencing in Oct 2025.

MANDARIN TEACHER - GERMAN INTERNATIONAL STREAM - SECONDARY SCHOOL

(Maternity Cover from October 2025-February 2026)

The successful candidate will be an excellent Mandarin practitioner who is dedicated to enabling each child to achieve the highest possible standards. The successful candidate will be expected to be up to date with current teaching and learning practices with regards to differentiated learning, assessment and reporting. She/he will be a dynamic, open-minded and enthusiastic Mandarin practitioner who provides learning opportunities for every student commensurate to her/his needs, abilities and stage of development, by teaching a programme that gives each student the opportunity to experience success, and which challenges all students to achieve their full potential.

What is required and what we’re looking for

Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) in Secondary Education
Proven teaching experience in both primary and secondary desired
Good experience in teaching second language learners with good command of pinyin and simplified Chinese characters
Extra qualification as a teacher for mandarin as a second language welcomed
Very good command of English skills in written and speaking, German language capacity in writing and speaking is a plus
Applicants with a successful career with international teaching programs strongly preferred
Culturally sensitive, tolerant and patient to operate in a multi-cultural context convincingly
Positive work ethic and proactive team player
Short-term available candidates with strong teaching experience to come in and take over from day 1 strongly considered
