Role Introduction
The Engineer - Lighting is responsible for the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of all lighting systems throughout Kai Tak Sports Park. This role will ensure optimal lighting conditions for sporting events, concerts, conferences, and daily operations while maintaining the highest safety standards. The position requires expertise in production lighting, architectural lighting systems, and event-specific lighting solutions to deliver exceptional visual experiences for visitors and broadcast audiences. This role will work closely with Technical Services, Operations, Marketing, and external event producers to provide comprehensive lighting support across all venues within the complex.
Key Responsibilities

Proactively identify and manage work-related hazards, ensuring that risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work are in place and followed for all lighting activities.

Set up and operate lighting systems and facilities to the highest possible standard for all events and daily operations.

Plan and develop effective lighting solutions for sporting events, concerts, conferences, and venue requirements across the complex.

Maintain production lighting equipment, dimmers, control systems, and architectural lighting through planned preventative maintenance programs.

Install, configure, and maintain lighting control systems including DMX networks, LED fixtures, moving lights, and conventional lighting equipment.

Maintain efficient, safe, and secure storage of all production lighting equipment and consumables.

Coordinate lighting equipment rentals and procurement to satisfy event requirements while ensuring budgets are met.

Maintain lighting equipment inventory including spare parts and consumables to ensure operational readiness.

Maintain an asset register of all lighting equipment to ensure statutory requirements for testing and inspection are met.

Supervise and assist casual technical staff and sub-contractors, ensuring appropriate support and work standards are maintained.

Attend client meetings to provide specialist technical advice and lighting design consultation.

Collaborate with other departments to ensure full understanding of client needs and rapid response to changing requirements.

Provide technical support during live events to ensure optimal lighting performance for both audience experience and broadcast requirements.

Program and operate lighting control consoles for various event types and production requirements.

Maintain cabling infrastructure for lighting systems including power distribution, DMX, and network connectivity.

Ensure all lighting systems comply with safety standards, electrical regulations, and venue operational protocols.

Stay current with emerging lighting technologies and recommend system upgrades or improvements.

Train venue staff on basic lighting equipment operation and safety procedures.

Participate in event setup and breakdown as required, including after-hours and weekend events.

Document lighting plots, equipment specifications, and maintenance procedures for knowledge sharing.

Liaise with external vendors and contractors for specialized equipment and technical support.

Perform other ad-hoc duties as required.
Requirements

3+ years of experience in professional lighting design and operation in venue or event environments.

Strong knowledge of lighting control systems, DMX protocols, and lighting console operation.

Experience with LED lighting systems, moving lights, conventional fixtures, and power distribution.

Proficiency in lighting design software and ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plots.

Working knowledge of electrical systems, power requirements, and safety regulations.

Experience with architectural lighting systems and integration with building management systems.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure during live events.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

Physical capability to lift equipment up to 25kg and work at heights when necessary.

Hands-on approach with passionate, flexible, and dedicated attitude.

Clear and concise communication skills with confidence working with clients and multi-tasking abilities.

Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as events require.

Professional certifications in lighting technology or electrical work preferred.

Experience in large-scale venue, broadcast, or entertainment environments is highly desirable.
