According to the latest data released by the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has dipped slightly to 3.8%. Although the total employment figures saw a marginal decrease, the drop in the number of unemployed individuals was more pronounced (a reduction of approximately 3,700 people).
Key Sector Highlights:
- Retail and Accommodation Services: Driven by the recovery of tourism and the boost from Chinese New Year consumption, these two sectors saw the most significant declines in unemployment.
- Foundation and Superstructure Works: The construction industry remains robust, with a steady and continuous demand for talent.
- Youth Employment: The unemployment rate for those aged 20 to 29 fell to 6.9%, marking its lowest point since June 2025.
Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Chris Sun, noted that while the economic momentum remains positive, certain local sectors still face specific challenges. For HR professionals, while the data is encouraging, the difficulty of recruitment (Talent Scarcity) remains a persistent reality in the market.
