Injured residents affected by the devastating Hong Kong high-rise fire will receive HK$50,000 if they spent up to three days in hospital, or HK$100,000 if admitted for more than three days, as part of a relief package announced by the Community Care Fund.

All students living in Wang Fuk Court will receive a HK$20,000 subsidy from their schools to cover study-related expenses and commuting costs from their temporary accommodation.

Construction workers, cleaners, security guards and domestic helpers working in the housing estate will also receive a HK$20,000 subsidy to cover their loss of income. The payments will be distributed by the Labour Department.

This support aims to alleviate the financial burden on vulnerable groups, including migrant domestic workers who lost belongings and face job insecurity.

The fund, managed by the Social Welfare Department, has allocated HK$10 million for this initiative, with applications open until January 31, 2026.

For HR professionals in the domestic and care sectors, this highlights the importance of contingency plans for migrant employees, such as emergency funds or insurance, to ensure stability in crises.
