The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Hong Kong decreased from 3.9% in the July to September period to 3.8% in the August to October period, according to the latest labour force statistics released by the Census and Statistics Department.

This decline indicates a stabilizing job market amid ongoing economic recovery, with total employment increasing by 1,700 to 3,691,400 and the labour force rising by 1,200 to 3,820,100.

The underemployment rate remained unchanged at 1.6%, affecting sectors such as arts, entertainment, and recreation.

Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun noted that the labour market is expected to remain tight in the near term, supported by continued economic growth, particularly in consumption and tourism-related activities.

However, external uncertainties could pose challenges, urging businesses to monitor developments closely.

For HR professionals in industries like retail and hospitality, this positive shift suggests opportunities for strategic hiring and retention efforts to capitalize on the improving market conditions.
